This week Paul hits the reset button one more time on the issue of Idolatry and eating meat in the restaurant of a pagan temple. Idol worship was the major expression of religion in Corinth and there were several pagan temples in the city which were extremely popular.
There are many contemporary parallels of idolatry in today's world. And when we understand them, Paul's warning "to flee from idolatry" becomes much more meaningful.
Paul will also point out we can't have it both ways, and our total allegiance is to Christ alone. We are also not to put anything above God because anything can become an idol.
Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the Lord your God.
Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord. — Leviticus 26:1-2
