We saw in Chapter 9 Paul using himself as an example of a mature Christian, one who has a mature relationship with Christ by trusting, worshiping and obeying Him.
Here in Chapter 10, Paul uses Israel as an example of spiritual immaturity, which was seen in their self-confidence and lack of self-discipline. Idolatry, sexual immorality, testing God and grumbling were common behaviors that were unpleasing to God. These are some of the examples of that time in history that remain warnings for us now.
Paul will also give strong encouragement to the Corinthian Christians about temptation and victory, which helps us avoid making the same mistakes as those who were once travelers in the desert. — Pastor Don
