In chapter 5 Paul explained what should be done when open immorality in the congregation rears its ugly head. Now in chapter 6 he teaches how the congregation should handle smaller but serious concerns between believers and society.
Paul teaches that disagreements can be resolved in the court system, but often this option is void of Godly wisdom and not likely to be sensitive to Christian values. He also points out that society can take a very permissive stance to overlook and tolerate some immoral behaviors.
As we all face temptation, Paul reminds these believers of God's expectation to possess a high standard of reputation and living. With courtrooms and promiscuity, more often than not, it becomes common public knowledge. Paul is very good at reminding these and all believers today that harming ourselves and others is not pleasing to God, and that through Christ with every temptation comes a way of escape. — Pastor Don
