Acts | Abandon Ship

October 23, 2022 Speaker: Don Ringman Series: The Book of Acts

Topic: The Book of Acts Passage: Acts 27:1–44

After appealing to Caesar and having nothing brought to Agrippa that could find him guilty as charged, this week Paul is being transferred to Rome — at the empire's expense — to speak directly to the Emperor. God continues to provide, protect and encourage Paul to complete the mission of speaking the Gospel in Rome (Acts 23:11).

By the power of the Holy Spirit all things are possible for God, and I think of a word I have always loved when it comes to consistency: "sticktoitiveness." It's not a real word, but it reminds me of the times when I was ready to abandon ship, or throw in the towel.

I'm sure most of us have had those thoughts at some point in our lives, not to the point of self-harm, but it's like saying "I've had it!" We will see the same encouragement of Jesus coming from Paul in the midst of a massive storm, as he reveals a character that has absolute trust in God, even facing disaster and possible death.

It's a wonderful life when Jesus is our captain, no matter the outcome. Grab your life jacket — the weather looks a little sketchy...
