This week we will read of the fulfillment of Jesus' promise to his disciples when he told them in John 14:18 and 26: I will not leave you as orphans: I will come to you, and, The advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have said to you.
And in Acts 1:4-5: Do not leave Jerusalem but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days, you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.
We have heard the saying, 'Be careful who you listen to' and read in Proverbs, The way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but he who seeks counsel is wise. Where we turn for guidance in our daily lives is extremely important. What we do, whom we see, how we make decisions and choices — all affect who we become.
We should be cautious when we turn to people for advice; we must be aware that in some cases they will tell us only what they think we want to hear. The Scriptures tell us that the only guide for truth in life is the Holy Spirit. Jesus referred repeatedly to the Holy Spirit as the spirit of truth. The spirit of truth is like an inner compass in our lives, always pointing us toward Jesus, what He would be, what He would say or what He would do in any given moment or circumstance.
Guidance has always been God's desire for His people throughout the ages. We see in Acts, and in believers today, that this Spirit-filled life is marked by purpose, power and effectiveness. Not by what we do, but by what we are because of who is living and working inside us. — Blessings, Pastor Don
