JOHN | You Must Die to Live
Topic: Gospel of John Passage: John 12:12–12:36
It’s Palm Sunday and the King is coming. Thousands of people are singing HOSANNA! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD! They expected their King to save them from the Romans, not fully understanding that He came to die and to save them from their sin. The Messiah was supposed to live forever.
One reason that I think a lot of Christians are maybe dissatisfied or disappointed with their Christian life, maybe some of them even disillusioned and walk away, is because, in a sense, they have created their own Jesus. They’ve created Jesus in their own image, that fits their own expectation, their own desires, their own agenda. And then when that Jesus doesn’t come through for them, they feel cheated. They feel disappointed, sometimes disillusioned and walk away. The truth is, the only way to really experience the life that your soul longs for is to learn and to understand, to believe and to follow Jesus as He reveals Himself in the Scriptures.
