The first seven parables in Matthew 13 we've looked at have the common theme of “the kingdom of heaven.” As we are near the end of Matthew 13, we find yet another parable, the Parable of the Householder. However, this parable is a little different. The previous parables that Jesus spoke began with “the kingdom of heaven is like...” and were metaphors about the kingdom of heaven.
Though this parable does not begin in the same way, it is also about the kingdom of heaven. Jesus directs this parable to his disciples, and it illustrates their responsibility in the kingdom of heaven. Since we are followers of Christ, or his disciples, this parable has some noteworthy implications for us.
