This week, as we continue our series of “Simply Jesus,” we look at his encounter with a woman who had been crippled for eighteen years, a synagogue leader, his rebuke of Jesus for healing her on the Sabbath, and Jesus’ response.
From this passage we learn that when we prioritize cultural rules and regulations like the Pharisees, we too can become proud and judge others who are missing the mark. We learn from Jesus that we don’t prioritize cultural rules and regulations over having compassion for and helping the sinners and outcasts of the world. We also learn that even if we feel like an outcast and lost in a crowd, Jesus sees us and calls us forward so that he may forgive us for our sins and restore us in fellowship with him.
