Happy June, everyone. This week we begin a new sermon series in the book of James. James was one of the outstanding books in my early life as a believer and I have come to say it's my favorite book in the Bible. James uses an energetic style and crisp, well-chosen words as he outlines some of the general characteristics of the Christian life. In our study we will read about a living faith, trials in life, the law of love, wise speech, and teachings concerning attitudes towards wealth. James wrote to Jewish Christians who had been scattered throughout the Mediterranean world because of persecution, which made their surroundings hostile with intellectual agreement passing for true faith. James's letter has rich meaning for us as we are reminded that genuine faith transforms lives, produces loving actions towards others, and makes our faith evident to the world around us.
