The Main Event

Growing up, I played Little League, tried out for football, was too short for basketball, and really liked golf (playing, not watching). But now, I'm not into sports — unless it includes feeling the pull from a 20-pound Chinook, reeling in a state-record coho for inside Puget Sound, or looking down the sights of my compound bow at a four-point buck. Biblically speaking, I have always remembered the challenge to the prophets of Baal and his team in 1 Kings 18:16-40, when Elijah had water poured and poured and poured on an altar that was miraculously ignited with a horrendous fire from heaven, in front of all prophets, priests and people in the first-ever Super Bowl Sunday event.

This week, we will all hear from Paul as he tells the Thessalonians about the biggest "Main Event" — of Christ's return, when all believers dead and alive will be reunited, never to suffer or die again.
