New Life in Christ
2 Corinthians 5:16-17
We just entered a new year, when many people make resolutions to make changes in their lives. In the spirit of New Year's resolutions, we have embarked on a three-week series centered on being transformed into a new creation in Christ, because real changes can only happen when there is a transformation of a person’s heart.
2 Corinthians 5:17 tells us, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” Since Christ should be the centerpiece of one’s resolution, it is natural to ask the perennial question, "Who is Jesus Christ?" Last week, we looked at this question, considered several options, and concluded that Peter was correct when he told Jesus, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:16). We know this is true because of his impeccable life, his profound teachings, and the miracles he performed. He was crucified as the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and he rose from the dead, which verified his deity. Since Jesus Christ is the Son of God, then we have a good reason to renew our lives in him. So, this week we will look at how our lives can be transformed into a new creation in Christ, which is rooted in the Gospel message.
