Last Sunday we concluded our series in Titus, which now gives us an opportunity to revisit some past teachings that deserve another look.
One of my favorite messages comes from John 13, where Jesus explains his commands and new covenant concerning one another and how to treat our fellow human beings. "God created man in His own image." We, as His creation, have the conscious recognition that differs from any other creature. Imago Dei (Image of God) refers to God's own self-actualization through mankind, and God's care for mankind.
God has also included in his blueprint of Scripture instructions for His church, instructions that are encouraging and character-building in our relationships to one another. Having love for one another is key to revealing one important purpose in our creation. The ability and desire to love one's self, others and, therefore, God is often neglected and even opposed; but in Jesus, we see the character of God in human form.
What a God we have that would love us so much He would become flesh and show himself to His creation.
