Paul wrote three pastoral epistles: 1 and 2 Timothy, which we recently covered, and Titus, which we are currently studying. Generally, we see that Paul wrote these epistles to give instructions and encouragement to church leaders.
This week, we will conclude Paul’s letter to Titus. In previous weeks, we saw Paul articulate the qualifications for church leadership, how to deal with false teachers, specific instructions for different groups within the church, and how the grace of God inspires us to right thinking and right behavior, which includes being subject to authorities, being ready to do what is good, not slandering, and being peaceable, considerate, and gentle.
On Sunday, we will see Paul conclude his letter with another emphasis on preserving the message of truth. He again points out the necessities of not being caught up in “foolish controversies,” dealing with those who are divisive, and devoting ourselves to what is good.
