Tough Times for Christian Service

This week we are back in 2 Timothy as Paul continues to mentor this young pastor in a city that needs all the help it can get, especially from Christians who share the truth of Christ. Pastor John closed chapter 2 with Paul's urging and encouraging for Timothy to gently instruct people in the hope God grants repentance, knowledge of truth and that they would "come to their senses." Even though Paul is referring to the last days, which we are in since the resurrection occurred, in many parts of the world it is not especially difficult to be a Christian. But Paul's descriptive list in behavior in the last days describes our society, even, sadly, the behavior of many Christians. As we check ourselves against Paul's list, don't give in to society's pressures by settling for comfort without commitment. By standing up against evil and living as God would have his people live, we bring glory to God our Creator.
