Topic: New Testament Passage: Colossians 1:1–14
* Our apologies! Audio for this sermon is missing, but the YouTube video (below) is available. The day's sermon starts at minute 12:18.
This week as we enter Colossians, we see a familiar beginning with the Apostle Paul's opening statement, which includes a personal introduction of himself and those with him. Immediately it is followed by a heartfelt thankfulness to God, and includes a prayerful Spirit-filled encouragement for the readers.
This is a perfect formula and structure for a church in his day and for the Church of today. Wherever Paul preached, whether it be to Gentiles, hostile Jewish leaders or even to his Roman guards, whenever the Gospel was heard and people believed, lives were changed.
God's Word is not just information, it's transformation. New believers have a changed purpose, direction, attitude and behavior. Moving from self-seeking, to being fruitful in serving others for God.
This triad of faith, hope and love were not merely theological ideas to Paul; they dominated his heart and thinking as a Christian. I pray as the new year and series reveals itself to us, we can put into action the greatness of Jesus and respond with Him in our hearts and minds as well. — Pastor Don
