Last week Pastor Don spoke about the persecution, preaching and productivity of the Church. The Believers were scattered due to heavy persecution. We continue our study of Acts this week in Chapter 9 and find that Jesus personally addresses the persecution in a face to face conversation with one of the main instigators, Saul.
A stumbling block. A scandal. Few of us ever think of Jesus in those terms, yet both the Old and New Testament presents Him that way. It all started with a prophecy in Isaiah, 'He will be a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall.' Isaiah understood, perhaps better than any of the prophets, that when the Messiah would come He would be an offense, a scandal. He would be a wall or barrier to some and a stumbling block to others. He would break them and rebuild them in His image.
Saul experienced God’s Scandalous Grace. I know of no other person described in the Bible that experienced Scandalous Grace so vividly as Saul. He stumbled and fell on the Rock, Jesus Christ, a broken man. Have you ever experienced the Scandalous Grace of God? — Blessings, Ed.
