The New Year is here. For many people, the significance of New Year's Day is the time for making a commitment to make a change in their lives through making resolutions. It is the time for renewals, for taking a fresh start, with a hope for a brighter future

We, at Port Gardner Community Church (PGCC), believe that real change can only come from becoming a new person – a transformation from within. It is about becoming a new person in Jesus Christ.

An Invitation

If you are interested in what that is about, we at PGCC invite you to join us as we address this topic through a three-week series beginning on January 5.

January 5: We are going to consider who Jesus Christ is.

January 12: If Jesus Christ is truly the Son of God, then we will consider the reason why we want to renew our lives in him.

January 19: If we are or a new person in Christ, then we will consider how our changed lives make a difference in our worlds.

Port Gardner Community Church is a small group made up of followers of Jesus Christ — led by the truth of God’s Word, worshipping and living as the church, serving our Lord and one another to the glory of God Almighty.

Time: Sundays at 10 am.
Location: 2427 Lombard Ave. Everett, WA 98201

Introduction to 1 and 2 Timothy

This week we begin a new year and a new series. This new year will have many challenges and the best way to start is to hit the ground running. We will be looking at these two letters from the Apostle Paul which include words of wisdom from a seasoned preacher to a young new preacher (Timothy), facing incredible pressure from false teachers in changing times, and a changing world.

Paul's advice is critical for effective leadership no matter how the world changes because all scripture is breathed out by God, profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

As a body of believers pray for each other as we: Continue to gather in worship and study, Help physically to assist those in the flock, and Support local and world missions prayerfully and monetarily. These may seem like simple goals for the church this year but great things can come from humble beginnings. Hope to see you soon.

This Sunday signals the beginning of the Advent season, celebrating the arrival of Jesus the Christ into the world.

Christ brought salvation, unity and Hope to a world that cried out to God, in desperation and need. Advent is a time to examine Prophecy, Preparation, Joy, Love, and Hope as we walk with Jesus every day.

With Christ as the light of the world, we live with excitement and anticipation in the second advent, when the Savior who was born to save, returns, and prophecy is once again fulfilled, with the gift of the promise of everlasting life.

I encourage everyone to join together and celebrate this miraculous event that changed the world forever. — See you Sunday, Pastor Don

This week we will begin our series through 1 Corinthians. This letter from Paul is a response to some serious questions from the church concerning their environment — one which was surrounded by corruption and every conceivable sin, to which they were being pressured to adapt.

This is a church that Paul had established on his second missionary journey and somewhat reflects a familiar setting in many areas today. Corinth of the day was a major cosmopolitan city, a seaport and a major trade center filled with diversity and pluralistic values.

As Paul speaks to the various struggles in the church, he takes a strong and straightforward approach with church leaders by emphasizing the clear and simple gospel message around which all believers should rally. Sandwiched in the middle of all the issues is his magnificent description of the greatest gift — which is Love — found in chapter 13.

We will start this coming Sunday with an introduction and then unpack week by week what we can learn by observing how Paul handled these delicate situations.

Journey to Jerusalem

Luke 9:51-21:38

This week we begin a series that will take us through some highlights in Jesus' ministry that will not only prepare his disciples for the fulfillment of prophecy through the cross, but also teach what they are to do afterwards.

I encourage you to read through this section of Scripture as we look at Luke's account of this journey of Jesus. We will see inspiring stories and teachings that help all believers in their life-centered journey with Jesus. Allow yourself to sense God's calling in some area of life.

Jesus knew he would face persecution and death in Jerusalem, yet he was determined to go there. This kind of resolve should characterize our lives too.

When God gives us a course of action, we move steadily toward our destination, no matter what potential hazards or costs await us there. Following Jesus is accepting the cross along with the crown as we are sent out as messengers because the harvest is plentiful but the workers are few.

As we prepare for the celebration of Resurrection Sunday may God's word fill your hearts and minds with blessed assurance in Jesus.

See you Sunday,
Pastor Don

— Our Journey to Jerusalem sermon series starts this Sunday, March 12 and will lead up to Easter Sunday on April 9. Join us Easter Sunday at 9:30a for brunch followed by our worship service.

COLOSSIANS | Grounded in the Greatness of Jesus

New year, new series, same Jesus.

This week we begin Colossians with an introduction and brief overview of Paul's prison letter that addresses false teachers and expresses the supreme authority of Christ. This outpouring of Paul to a church he has basically never met, begins with "What Christ has done".

Paul brings to attention that Christ is God, Christ is the head of the Church, as believers we have union in Christ, and nothing can replace Jesus, especially man made religion.

Our hearts should rejoice that Jesus paid the price for sin, reconciling us to God and Jesus gives us the pattern and the power to Grow spiritually. Jesus is the exact likeness of God and when we learn what he is like, we see what we strive to become.

Heresy has always been a thorn in the flesh of the Church and has infiltrated its ranks many times and has always been confronted by the only solution, which is, The Sufficiency of Christ.

Colossians 2:9-10 — 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness. He is the head over every power and authority.
