Port Gardner Church Family,

Over the past several years we, among the normal duties as a church body, have been focussed on finding a home for our congregation. God has wonderfully blessed us in our relationship with Parkside Chapel. Parkside has freely given us this excellent ministry tool and we are ever so grateful. Part of our collective desire is to do our best to prepare Port Gardner to carry on for this generation and future generations.

At some point I plan to retire and I have discussed these plans with our elders. Many of us have witnessed poor examples of leadership transitions in churches. As elders, we have been in diligent prayer and discussion as to how we can tackle these issues with God’s leading in a manner that is pleasing to God.

With this in mind, we, the elders of Port Gardner Community Church are pleased to inform you that we have decided to add Pastor Josh Lofthus to our staff. Josh is a detailed and encouraging expositional preacher and teacher. He is a caring and compassionate shepherd with the gifts and skills necessary for pastoral vocation.

We are very encouraged by Josh and his commitment to the sufficiency of scripture, the truth of the gospel, and a deep and caring love for Christ and His church. We believe that God has brought Josh and his wife Lauren to us by His divine will and we are blessed to receive them as a new part of the Port Gardner family. Our plan is for Josh to transition into my role as senior pastor of Port Gardner CC.

Josh will begin immediately sharing the pulpit with me and will work into leadership and the elder process as directed by the elders and God’s leading. And with God’s help, these plans will come to fruition.

Kathleen and I love this church and all of you in it. As I said earlier, I do plan to retire at some time but Port Gardner is our home and even after retirement Kathleen and I plan to stay, encourage, serve and worship together right here at Port Gardner.

We believe that this is where God is leading us. We ask for your prayers. We know you will welcome Josh and Lauren with open arms. You all are so gracious, generous and kind, and I am so excited for Josh and Lauren to experience your Christian friendship and encouragement.
